Scraftin’ Haul from the Antique Shop

2 / 4 / 11

Last week, I had an opportunity to hit a few thrift shops and the antique store in the next town over. The antique store has had everything on at 50% off for sometime now, but this is the first time I have ever purchased anything. It never occured to me to search for vintage scraftin’ (my new word) stuff at an antique shop before. After this haul, I am wondering what all I have missed at every other shop I have visited.
I was so inspired that I decided to video my treasures and upload it (after 24 hours of trying) to youtube. Being self-conscious, I can readily point out all my mistakes and play games with this video….like…how many times can you say “ummm” in five minutes? or what the heck is that accent? can this woman even talk?
So I share with you now…will all its flaws…my very first Simply My Crafts video……

Scrapbook.Com Commercial

While perusing my favorite blogs in search of inspiration for my own Christmas Card creations, I came across this video over on the Courtney Lane Designs Blog. I just couldn’t wait to share it over here. I don’t think I have ever seen a scrapbook company commercial before…but this will definitely be a tough act to follow. What FUN!

Merry Banner

12 / 5 / 10

Nothing like going AWOL right after starting a new blog, eh? Well, these past several months have taken several turns and have kept us all busy.

This past week, I was excited to finally be able to unpack my Cricut and get to work. I was like a kid in a candy store and had difficulty focusing on just one project to begin and then complete. Looking for inspiration on several blogs, I noticed that many crafters had created holiday banners and so my journey began.
Cricut Cartridges Used: B is for Boy, Storybook, Lacy Labels, Christmas and Joys of Season.
I did not have any chipboard on-hand so I upcycled some cereal boxes that I had been saving (for the perfect project).

Though it is not perfect, and is fairly simple, I am a bit proud of my creation and proud that I finally learned how to use the layers feature on my Gypsy.

Luggage Tags for Dorm Room Door Decorations

8 / 17 / 10

With two daughters that will be Resident Assistants, me and both of  my Cricuts have been very, very busy. My Hero and I were camping at Meade State Lake and Hais joined us for a few days so that we could work on her dorm room door decs (slang for door decorations..haha). We had a great time and much was accomplished. The space was tight and we had to improvise, but all went well.

Luggage Tag Door Decorations

The theme to welcome the students on her floor is….

“Several Journeys….One Destination”

…so luggage tags seemed the perfect compliment. Using bright colors with neon animal and other prints, she layered the tag with a shadow and added the names individually. A black ribbon and a clear bling embellishment were the crowning touch.

And this is the mess that was created from our fun. I save the scraps, so that I can cut the useable parts for my saved scraps pile.

REduce, REuse, REcycle

Couldn’t finish the post without a photo of Hais and Blondie together. Hais had not seen Blondie since she suffered her stroke and both were ecstatic to see one another. They were inseperable the entire visit.

Dorm Room Door Decorations and Name Tags

7 / 26 / 10

The Oklahoma City Comfort Suites on I40 proved to be the perfect location for JMorgan and I to meet for our “crafting” adventures this past weekend. JMorgan is going to be a Resident Assistant at her college this next semester  and she was wanted to create some very special door name tags to welcome each of her (105) students.

I arrived from Kansas midday and JMorgan arrived from Texas early evening. She had a slight bit of directional difficulty that resulted in a momentary bit of anxiety. With an armload of heavy items, seems she arrived at someone else’s room (in a different hotel). In her defense…the two hotels appear to share the same parking lot and do not look too architecturally different.

We have stayed at this Comfort Suites before, but never in a room with this configuration of  three queen sized beds (with the most comfortable mattresses ever) and ample room to set up a couple of tables to craft.

IN the THROWS of CREATING

and you know I HAD to spend some time (and $$) at Michaels and Hobby Lobby while in OKC…right?

Both of my cricuts were working non-stop through a good portion of this adventure and the two small hotel trash cans just could not keep us with us. This pile of paper ultimately came home  with me so I could salvage some of the larger unused portions.

These 12 x 12 sheets of cardstock are  actually pink, teal and black, but you could never tell it by the distorted colors from my camera. In all fairness to my beloved Sony….the room was fairly dark and I didn’t use a flash. (*****Mental note to self…bring an extra Ott Light!)

This is what 120 college resident door tags like at 4:30 A.M.

Packing up to go home….the first of four loads for MY car….

And the Mother ~ Daughter Scrap Retreat comes to an end…

If you figure in all of the expenses associated with these door tags, the per tag cost is probably around  $5 each….

Three Nights Hotel ~  $335

Travel from Kansas and Texas to Oklahoma City ~  $130

Meals ~ $165

Supplies ~ $who knows really?

Adventures with oldest daughter PRICELESS!

JMorgan on her way back to college…..

Guess What Was In MY Mailbox Today!

7 / 19 / 10

 It’s here…it’s finally here!

The Cricut Circle Welcome Box!

I just love the box…not sure what I am going to do with it yet…but you KNOW I am keeping it!  I could hardly wait to get home to rip it open, but just in case I wanted to “scrap” about it, I had to take some photos first. So now, you can see the “unveiling”.

The first thing I saw when I opened the box was my official member certificate…with my official member number and everything! Then the Welcome Letter….yeah, yeah, but what is next? The new Cricut Circle exclusive French Manor cartridge and official Cricut Circle Bracelet.

Woot! Woot!

The box…..

The Exclusive French Manor Cartridge…..

The….

What? You want to see it outside of the bag?

I love the bright green crinkle paper. Wouldn’t it look pretty displayed inside a glass jar?

The Gypsy Has Returned!

4 / 19 / 10

My darling new Gypsy has arrived and now has all 37 of my cartridges uploaded again. The plugs on this one seems to be a bit “tighter” , not having some of the wiggle room my original did. I had to use a tiny bit of force to get the upload cord into the slot. When I tried to sync it with my computer, the Gypsy kept shutting down and I thought… “Oh GREAT! THIS ONE has a problem too!”  Once I figured out that the cord was not attached all the way and that the tech difficulties were with a slow internet connection….all was good. There was a huge sigh of relief!

The few projects that I had stored are forever lost, but I have immediately begun an attempt to recreate some of them. At the end of the month, I will be attending eBayon Location in Dallas, Texas and I want to have a special gift for one of my online friends. The plan is to design her eBay user ID  to look similar to the eBay logo and then use my Cricut Expressions to cut the vinyl for etching onto a wine glass. I am so excited and can hardly wait to get started on this project.

Details Soon!

Gypsy Vacation

4 / 13 / 10

How in the world did my Cricut Expressions and I ever get along without our Gypsy? I actually just recently found out. A few days before my glass etching class at Hobby Lobby, my darling little Gypsy crashed…yes CRASHED! It would not boot up…the blue light flashed but no one was home. It shut itself off again and again….which earned it a trip to Spanish Fork, Utah.

When Provocraft shared the devastating news that it would take about three weeks for us to be rejoined with our Gypsy, panic set in. The projects for my class were all stored on my precious little Gypsy and the thought of teaching my very first class with my trusty friend at my side frightened me to no end.

I have to mention that I rarely give up when I receive news that is not what I want to hear. Later in the day, I decided to call back to plead for a faster turn around….offering several of my own suggestions for how I could be reunited with Gypsy much sooner than the 3 weeks. After finding a sympathetic ear and paying $28 in shipping, I might be seeing Gypsy within a week.  I can hope!
